I've Got Cabin Fever

Posted on 17:21 by rendy orton
I love DC. I really do.
Once in a while, though, I like to get away.
If I can do that with fun people, even better.

So for President's Day weekend, some friends and I escaped our urban/suburban DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) digs and headed for John Denver's mountains in blessed ol' West Virginia.

Besides eating lots of delicious food, chilling in the hot tub, and watching a movie or two, we also took a day to go to Whitetail for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding.
It helps to get a running start and jump into it!
The tubing crew.
We learned we're much faster when we tube together.
Cool shades. Cool reflection.
The skiing/snowboarding crew.
The whole gang, after a fun day on the slopes.

Institute Ice Skating

Posted on 22:34 by rendy orton
When was the last time you went ice skating? This winter? Last year? Five years ago? Well whatever the actual time you went, you should answer, "Too long ago." Ice skating is a blast.

The NoVA Institute sponsored a swimming and skating night, so my friend Ashley (visiting from Philly) and I went to check it out. After having pizza and socializing for a bit, we decided to skip the swimming and just go straight to ice skating. Excellent choice.

Doesn't she look smooth on the ice?
Some people got fancy. And sometimes they ended up on the ice.
Shandi and Michele take a picture break.
Brea and Steffany skated circles around me
(especially when I was chilling at center rink).
Dudes. If they'd have let me keep my skates on for this pic,
I could've been almost Paul's height.
Dance party at center rink!
The evening was a success, and besides my sore ankles (seriously, is there any way to avoid that?), I wouldn't have changed a thing. Let's do this activity again soon!

Unevenlane at DancePlace

Posted on 22:17 by rendy orton
Remember when I spent a Saturday dancing around in Dupont Circle?
Well the event that we were promoting happened,
and it was every bit as great as I'd expected it to be.

I went with a couple friends to Mary's dance performance,
and she rocked it. Rocked it, I tell you!
See her dance company website here.
Doesn't hurt that she looks beautiful, but her movements were all so fluid and the choreography (which she did for the whole show) was excellent and exciting to watch.
We all loved seeing all Mary's hard work pay off. And the costumes she made (and I helped a tiny bit on) were functional and at the same time additive to the entertainment value.
Aaron and Jon give Unevenlane two enthusiastic thumbs up!
After the show, we all went to U Street to celebrate. Here's the entire cast (I think). Great job, everybody, and I can't wait until your next show comes out... though a break is very deserved.
